A.I. could replace journalists - warns head of HUGE media company!

Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, one of the world's largest media companies, has warned his staff that the rise in AI-powered technology threatens to make journalists obsolete! Real great to boost company morale there pal!

In a memo to employees, Döpfner stated that AI has the potential to make independent journalism better or replace it altogether, particularly in the aggregation of information.

He also predicted a revolution in the industry, where AI tools would be more proficient than humans. Döpfner announced cost cuts to advance earnings by $106m but assured staff there would be no layoffs of reporters, authors or specialist editors. ( I think he may have forgotten to add "yet" to that sentence?

China's GPT Black Market is thriving!

The black market for ChatGPT access and the proliferation of copycats highlight the challenges facing companies that want to develop generative AI products in China. There is a growing demand for generative AI products, particularly for ChatGPT!

Yuxin Guo, a master's student in Beijing, discovered ChatGPT through online discussions and decided to try it out for herself. However, ChatGPT is not available in China, so she went to Taobao, the country's largest e-commerce site, where hundreds of thousands of merchants offer ChatGPT logins for sale, with prices ranging from $0.17 to $4.28.

The black market for ChatGPT access and the proliferation of copycats highlight the challenges facing companies that want to develop generative AI products in China. The "black box" nature of generative AI makes it difficult to predict a chatbot's output, which could be risky in China's heavily controlled internet.

Despite these challenges, China's tech giants, including Baidu, iFlyTech, Tencent, Alibaba, JD.com, and NetEase, have been developing their own large language models for years and are scrambling to catch up with OpenAI.

The Chinese government has recognized the importance of development in generative AI and has promised to assist "top domestic firms in creating competing models to ChatGPT
